Research

The main tasks of large carnivore research in Finland are inventory of large carnivore resources and producing information about the behaviour of species. Central fields are research of living environments together with population estimates and statistics of population dynamics. Mobility, territories, dietary habits and relation to human actions are also areas where research is conducted.

The Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute is in charge of large carnivore research in Finland. The Institute is in the administrative sector of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Population estimates

Estimates of the numbers of large carnivores in Finland are made by the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute.
